Education in Franklin Southampton

The City of Franklin public school system serves approximately 1,300 students in three schools: S.P. Morton Elementary School (Pre-K-5th) J.P. King Jr. Middle School (grades 6-8) and Franklin High School (grades 8-12).The Southampton County public school system offers four elementary schools throughout the County, and one centrally located middle and high school complex. In addition Southampton County offers a Technical Career Center located on the Southampton High School campus. Private school options include Southampton Academy and the Rock Church of Franklin which offers enrollment from Pre-K through 12th grade (k12).

Hampton Roads is home to 8 traditional 4-year colleges and universities and four community colleges, as well as more than 20 for-profit educational institutions. Approximately 96,000 students attend college in Hampton Roads annually, with 14,000 students graduating and entering the job market. Among the post secondary institutions in our region are the College of William & Mary, the second oldest college in America and one of the 75 best universities in the world according to the London-based Times Higher Education. In addition, Old Dominion University, the largest school in Hampton Roads with just under 25,000 students, is home to a highly respected College of Engineering and Technology and was the first school in the country to create a Ph.D. program in Modeling & Simulation. 

Paul D. Camp Community College is a two-year public higher education institution with campuses in Franklin and Suffolk and a Center in Smithfield. With the mission of providing diverse learning opportunities to enhance the quality of life for students and the community, the College offers a wide array of educational opportunities and workforce training. Educational opportunities include: Associate degrees, career studies certificates in transfer and career/technical programs; credit and non-credit workforce services; training for businesses and industries; and special interest classes for the community.
